Mojave[]

In the episode TOS: "The Cage" Pike says the line: "I used to ride through here when I was a kid. It's not as pretty as some of the parkland around the big cities, but. That's Mojave. That's where I was born." This page claims that Pike comes from Mojave, California, and the page "Mojave" claims it to be an actual and particular city in California. However, Pike gives no other information on the place, and the page on Mojave says it was filmed at Desilu so it could not be filmed at the actual location. I do not see any evidence to support this city in California over anywhere else named Mojave. On this talk page, under the header "Roddenberry obsession" it is claimed that Roddenberry had an obsession with the Mojave Desert. However, the Mojave desert is in Arizona, Nevada, and Utah in addition California and includes many locations named Mojave besides this California city. Did Roddenberry say anywhere that this city is what he meant? Or could he have meant elsewhere in the Mojave Desert, Mojave County, or perhaps the Mojave Reservation?

I am not changing anything at the moment because there may be some evidence that Pike is from this city and not anywhere else. I may change it later if I cannot find any evidence and no one presents any. I may well be wrong, but it seems like this is a bit of non-cannon information that is frequently repeated because it is plausible. Anson Mount[]

Should Anson Mount be added to the performers list, since it's official and all, or are we waiting for him to appear on-screen? --WTRiker (talk) 01:16, May 1, 2018 (UTC)

Appears, yes. -- sulfur (talk) 02:14, May 1, 2018 (UTC)

Carrington Award[]

Since Pike apparently got a Carrington Award, he must have some sort of medical or research background, though unless we get more detail that will be very hard to mention. He could also have made some sort of profound discovery on a mission. 31dot (talk) 11:20, January 21, 2019 (UTC)

Chris Pike's age?[]

Hey folks, what evidence is out there that Pike is in his 50s during "The Cage" or DIS?

Jeffrey Hunter was a hell of a lot younger than 50 and even though Anson Mount is 45, I don't quite buy him being c.55 during S2 of DIS.

The alleged birthdate I can only imagine is an attempt to reconcile Bruce Greenwood playing Pike in the movies, and although I love Greenwood's portrayal, it's obviously different from both of the TV versions.

Anyone else have thoughts on this? Mikegimmi (talk) 23:09, February 17, 2019 (UTC)

He said he was at the Academy at the same time as Georgiou in Season 2. Georgiou was born in 2202, which means at the earliest she would have been at Academy in the 2220s--Tuskin38 (talk) 00:08, February 18, 2019 (UTC)

Which wheelchair pic[]

So which wheelchair pic should be used? The one of Anson Mount in the wheelchair see in the episode "Through the Valley of Shadows" or the Sean Kenney one from "The Menagerie, Part I"?--Jkirk8907 (talk) 02:41, April 5, 2019 (UTC)

Which one is the "last" image we have? - Archduk3 04:57, April 5, 2019 (UTC)

Removed text[]

I removed the following not-notable "catchphrase":

"Captain Christopher Pike of the USS Discovery."

- One of his ways of introducing himself when in command of the Discovery (Star Trek: Discovery)

This is no "Bond, James Bond." -- Renegade54 (talk) 21:28, May 18, 2020 (UTC)

Removed text[]

I removed the following "notable quote":

"Serving as your captain has been one of the greatest honors of my career. You are exceptional officers. Exceptional individuals, every single one of you. Lieutenants Detmer and Owosekun, I wouldn't be here if you hadn't saved my life on the way to that asteroid. Lieutenant Nilsson, You've stepped up for Airiam in way that honors her. Lieutenants Bryce and Rhys, you're calm under pressure. And Commander Saru, I'm gonna miss the hell outta you. Lieutenant Spock… there aren't words. Commander Nhan has requested to stay aboard Discovery."
"If I can be of help, that is."
"Well – It would be our privilege to have you, commander."
"As for you… Most people will never get a chance to learn what's in their own hearts. If we figure it out, it's often not what we not expected, or even what we would have chosen for ourselves. I am very grateful, commander, to have been here to watch you discover your heart. Thank you. I know that you… I know that all of you will face your destinies with bravery and honor. Even those moments to come that will test the strongest among us."
"Thank you… sir."

- Christopher Pike, Nhan, Saru, and Michael Burnham, during Pike's goodbye to the crew of the Discovery (DIS: "Such Sweet Sorrow")

This is 1) a whole fracking scene, not a quote, and 2) not in the least bit notable. -- Renegade54 (talk) 21:31, May 18, 2020 (UTC)

Events depicted in Short Treks[]

Is there any particular reason the events of 'The Trouble with Edward' and 'Ask Not' have been placed chronologically before those seen in 'The Cage'? The individual episode pages and the Short Trek episode list all indicate that these two shorts take place sometime between roughly 2258 and 2263-ish (after DIS but before TOS) and way after the 2254 setting of 'The Cage'. 94.6.124.23 13:32, May 21, 2020 (UTC)

Pike's enrollment in Starfleet[]

Moved from User talk:Sulfur

Hey! What's the source for the date you gave regarding Pike's enrollment in Starfleet? | Pedronog (talk) 14:38, June 26, 2020 (UTC)

DIS: "Brother" was used to cite that on both this Pike and the regular Pike. It was also used on the 2220 article. It was changed by a user in June on the regular Pike article without a comment/etc but never propagated through to other locations.
In short, I think that we need to nail down precisely what cites it and then correct all of the related articles. -- sulfur (talk) 15:33, June 26, 2020 (UTC)

From what I understood, it was all based on the fact that Pike met Georgiou in the Academy, who in return studied there from 2020 to 2024. That being said, I think the reasoning used was that Pike must have attended the academy while Georgiou was there and therefore the bottom date is the date of her entry, 2020, and the top date is of her graduation, 2024. | Pedronog (talk) 15:39, June 26, 2020 (UTC) I meant 2220 and 2224 obviously... | Pedronog (talk) 15:41, June 26, 2020 (UTC)

In that case, the citation to "Brother" is completely incorrect too, because the Georgiou article cites it to either DIS: "The Butcher's Knife Cares Not for the Lamb's Cry" or "Saints of Imperfection".
Regardless, this article, the Christopher Pike article and the 2220 and/or 2224 articles need to be all brought in line with each other. -- sulfur (talk) 15:52, June 26, 2020 (UTC)

Good point, but I think the "Brother" reference has to do with the grades, which were displayed during Pike's introduction in that episode. | Pedronog (talk) 15:58, June 26, 2020 (UTC)

Could be -- but my point is that, if this is an indirect date cite... we should include those other cites (for whichever is correct, of course). -- sulfur (talk) 16:15, June 26, 2020 (UTC)

Then, I think we just need to agree on what is correct so someone can make the necessary changes in all the articles. | Pedronog (talk) 16:24, June 26, 2020 (UTC)

I checked all the episodes and my theory checks out! There's indeed a profile on Georgiou in DIS: "The Butcher's Knife Cares Not for the Lamb's Cry" detailing her attendance years at Starfleet Academy. I'll correct the pages. | Pedronog (talk) 15:43, June 27, 2020 (UTC)

Great. Make sure to put the appropriate cites across the board. -- sulfur (talk) 15:49, June 27, 2020 (UTC)

Removed "memorable quotes"[]

I removed the following episode transcripts...er "memorable" quotes.

"I'm tired of being responsible for two hundred and three lives. I'm tired of deciding which mission is too risky and which isn't. And who's going on the landing party and who doesn't. And who lives… and who dies."

- Christopher Pike, hinting at his retirement to Philip Boyce (TOS: "The Cage")

"It's just that I can't get used to having a woman on the bridge."
(Una Chin-Riley looks surprised)
"No offense, lieutenant. You're different, of course."

- Christopher Pike to Una Chin-Riley, about Colt (TOS: "The Cage")

"But we're not here. Neither of us. We're in a menagerie, a cage!"

- Christopher Pike to Vina, in the picnic fantasy (TOS: "The Cage")

"You stop this illusion or I'll twist your head off."
(The Keeper stops his illusion and reverts back to his normal state)
"Alright, now you try one more illusion, you try anything at all, and I'll break your neck."

- Christopher Pike to The Keeper, on The Keeper's illusion technique (TOS: "The Cage")

"I'm willing to bet you've created an illusion that this laser is empty. I think it just blasted a hole in that window and you're keeping us from seeing it. You want me to test my theory out on your head?"

- Christopher Pike to The Keeper, after he tries to use a laser to free himself (TOS: "The Cage")

"What are we running here, a cadet ship, Number One? Are we ready or not?"
"All decks report ready, sir."
"Engage!"

- Christopher Pike and Una Chin-Riley, as the Enterprise prepares to leave Talos IV (TOS: "The Cage")

"I'm here at Starfleet's order to take command of the Discovery under Regulation 19, Section "C".

- Christopher Pike, to acting captain Saru (DIS: "Brother")

"I see where the Federation puts its pennies."
"Do not covet thy neighbor's starship, commander. Besides, we've got the new uniforms."
"And lovely uniforms, they are. Captain."
"Very colorful."

- Nhan, Christopher Pike, Saru, and Michael Burnham on the Discovery and the Enterprise's new uniforms (DIS: "Brother")

"Sometimes it's wise to keep our expectations low, commander. That way we're never disappointed."

- Christopher Pike, to Michael Burnham, on Burnham not seeing Spock (DIS: "Brother")

'I was expecting a red thing. Where's my damn red thing?"

- Christopher Pike, after not seeing a mysterious red burst that he had been searching for (DIS: "Brother")

"Captain Pike, we are running a remote diagnostic on your pod now."
"It's dead. That's the diagnosis."

- Saru and Christopher Pike, on Pike's landing pod (DIS: "Brother")

"Wherever our mission take us, we'll try to have a little fun along the way, too, huh? Make a little noise? Ruffle a few feathers."

- Christopher Pike, to Michael Burnham, on Discovery's new mission (DIS: "Brother")

"If you're telling me that this ship can skip across the universe on a highway made of mushrooms, I kind of have to go on faith."

- Christopher Pike, to Saru, on Discovery's spore drive (DIS: "New Eden")

"Be bold. Be brave. Be courageous. Black alert."

- Christopher Pike, to the crew of the Discovery prior to his first spore jump (DIS: "New Eden")

"Let's jump."

- Christopher Pike, to the crew of the Discovery prior to his first spore jump (DIS: "New Eden")

"He assembled a Federation task force to study the seven signals. He might have news for us."
"He may want to discuss something else. I reported Spock's advance knowledge of the signals to Command. Information likely got back to the ambassador, with the news that his son admitted himself into a psychiatric hospital."
"You didn't betray your friend, captain. You followed protocol."
"It's easy to say, harder to believe."

- Michael Burnham and Christopher Pike, on a possible visit from Sarek (DIS: "Point of Light")

"Was she this bossy as a kid?"
"On Vulcan, we call it 'persistence', and yes, she was. She learned that from me."

- Christopher Pike and Amanda, about Burnham (DIS: "Point of Light")

"Captain."
"Welcome aboard Discovery, Number One."

- Una Chin-Riley and Christopher Pike, on Una Chin-Riley's visit to Discovery (DIS: "An Obol for Charon")

"Apparently, Enterprise is the only ship in the fleet that's had any problems."
"You know, he warned me. The damn holographic comm system. Tell Louvier to rip out the entire system. From now on we'll communicate using good, old-fashioned view screens. Truth is I never liked the holograms. They look too much like ghosts. He told you I'd say that."
"No. I told him."

- Una Chin-Riley and Christopher Pike, on Enterprise's situation (DIS: "An Obol for Charon")

"All personnel, this is Captain Pike. Starfleet… is a promise. I give my life for you; you give your life for me. And nobody gets left behind. Ensign Sylvia Tilly is out there, and she has every right to expect us. We keep our promises. Please report to your stations in designated safe zones in the starboard section. Good luck, and Godspeed to us all."

- Christopher Pike, to the crew of the Discovery (DIS: "Saints of Imperfection")

"Mr. Stamets, are you ready to execute this very bold, deeply insane plan of yours?"

- Christopher Pike, to Paul Stamets (DIS: "Saints of Imperfection")

"Vina? H-How…?"
"I'm not used to you being afraid of me."
"Used to me?"
"It's a lot to digest. There's something I need to say. When you came to Talos, I'd been alone for so many years. I never imagined happiness or love. And when the Talosians decided we were…unsuited for each other…when you left, it was worse. Because I knew what I'd lost."

-Christopher Pike and Vina, after Vina appears to him (DIS: "If Memory Serves")

"I thought about you – us– often, and wished that you would have come with me."
"Chris, I didn't need to. That's what I'm trying to say. They brought you back to me. Not the real you – it's illusionary, of course – but the part of you that still lives inside of me. We spent a lifetime together."
"I'm glad… I'm glad you're not alone."
"All this time, you kept me sane. Kept me tethered to what I once felt. Even though I was never the person you thought I was."
"You didn't deceive anyone, Vina. I felt it, too. But you're here now. This is real."
"As real as it needs to be."

- Christopher Pike and Vina (DIS: "If Memory Serves")

"Let your friends go. It's the only way. Let them go. Let us all go. Trust me."
"Goodbye, Vina."

- Vina, appearing to Christopher Pike on the bridge of the Discovery (DIS: "If Memory Serves")

"Greetings, captain."
"Spock. Are you all right?"
"Much better for seeing you in person, sir. Even if we are riding into danger."
(Spock smiles)
"Is that a smile I see on your face?"
"I believe it is. Yes."
"Well, welcome to Discovery."

- Spock and Christopher Pike's reunion on Discovery (DIS: "If Memory Serves")

"I don't suppose the Red Angel offered you any advice on how to handle a situation like this."
"No. But my limited experience as a fugitive suggests only one course of action."
"And what is that?"
"We run."

- Christopher Pike and Spock, on Discovery becoming "the most wanted ship in the galaxy" (DIS: "If Memory Serves")

"You may still choose to walk away from this future. But if you take the crystal, your fate will be sealed, forever. There will be no escaping it."
(to himself) "You're a Starfleet captain. You believe in service, sacrifice, compassion... and love." (to Tenavik) "No. I'm not going to abandon the things that made me what I am because of a future… that contains an ending I hadn't foreseen for myself. No. Give it to me."
"I honor you, captain."

- Tenavik, warning of the consequences of taking the crystal, and Pike, choosing to accept his fate (DIS: "Through the Valley of Shadows")

"She looks as good as I remember."

- Christopher Pike, after returning to the bridge of the Enterprise (DIS: "Such Sweet Sorrow")

"Welcome home, captain."
"Good to be back. With it were under better circumstances."
"Don't we all."
"All major systems are back online, and we'll have no more holographic communications…ever."
"Probably for the best."

- Una Chin-Riley, Christopher Pike, and Katrina Cornwell, on Pike's return to the Enterprise (DIS: "Such Sweet Sorrow")

"Actually, our odds might be a little better than that. I took the liberty of retrofitting our shuttle and landing pod complement with enhanced phasers, and I commandeered the new experimental tactical flyers, assuming the shit would hit the fan."
"Well done, Number One."

- Una Chin-Riley and Christopher Pike, on Una Chin-Riley's initiative (DIS: "Such Sweet Sorrow")

"I'm Terran, by the way. From your "mirror universe".
"What mirror universe?'" (Pike winks at Georgiou as he is being beamed off Discovery)

- Philippa Georgiou and Christopher Pike, on Georgiou's origins (DIS: "Such Sweet Sorrow")

"This isn't where your story ends and I think you know that."
"If I'm meant for a different future, This thing can't possibly go off with me in here."

- Katrina Cornwell and Christopher Pike, on Pike's fate (DIS: "Such Sweet Sorrow, Part 2")

"Where to, Number One?"
"You're the captain… captain."
"I hear we discovered a new moon at Edrin II."
"That we did, sir."
"Thank You, Number One. In that case, Let's give her a spin, that sound good to you, Mr. Spock?"
"Yes, captain. Let us see what the future holds."
"Ready for warp, sir."
"Hit it."

- Christopher Pike, Una Chin-Riley, and Spock, on the Enterprise's next destination (DIS: "Such Sweet Sorrow, Part 2")

So maybe five is a good goal to have, but holy crap thirty-three quotes(!?!) is absolutely unacceptable. He hasn't even appeared in that many episodes. –Gvsualan (talk) 14:35, 6 May 2022 (UTC)

Friendships[]

Is there a reason Dr. Phil Boyce and Number One are not listed under 'Friendships'? I would be willing to add them if this is simply an oversight but it seems too egregious to be merely an oversight... is there some rule that is why they are not listed? JVM (Talk) 06:53, 18 May 2022 (UTC)

i guess "oversight" would be the most apt term for what is a somewhat subjective topic and something of secondary importance, but feel free.--Gvsualan (talk)

First and Second Position Image[]

If we're going by latest appearance shouldn't the image the Talosians created of Pike be in first position?

If we're going by true physical appearance wouldn't Anson Mount's post injury Pike take precedence as he's the predominant portrayal of Pike and that image of the injury is what will 100% happen?

Shouldn't Hunter be in the second image as well since The Cage is Pike's first appearance? Forresto44 (talk) 03:08, 15 August 2023 (UTC)

Just stop doing this on all of the SNW actor pages. Seriously. Either come up with a sitewide logic and post it in a forum or stop doing this. Choosing what you claim as "consensus" on one page doesn't make it something we should do everywhere. -- Sulfur (talk) 11:09, 15 August 2023 (UTC)

Sulfur I'm not doing anything to all of the SNW actor pages or sitewide - don't be hyperbolic. If you actually read the talk pages you'd know this only affected two characters.

This page doesn't follow current policy and I asked legitimate questions about it. I didn't change anything. Can you chill?

  1. Anson Mount isn't the earliest appearance of Pike - Hunter in The Cage would be.
  2. The Talosian telepathic image of Pike is the last we see of him - its how he appears to us and himself.

I have created a site wide discussion on the Ten Forward: Forum:Primary Picture Format Change for One Off Characters Recast as Regulars. — Forresto44 (talk) 13:28, 15 August 2023 (UTC)

Just for the record, Anson Mount is Pike's first appearance, as he played the role in "Q&A" which is set before "The Cage". 🖖 Mr. Starfleet Command (open a channelcontributionsactivity) 13:33, 15 August 2023 (UTC)
