Despite dialog to the opposite effect in Star Trek: Enterprise, the Laughing Buddha statue that is typically rubbed for luck is not a representation of the historical Gautama Buddha but rather Budai, a Chinese Chan Buddhist monk of the Liang Dynasty. In addition, rubbing of the statue's belly brings good luck rather than enlightenment.

The way I understand it, Budai is considered a Buddha (at least in some traditions) and Trip said absolutely nothing except mentioning the belly rubbing, so I don't see the problem. -- Capricorn (talk) 23:22, March 11, 2015 (UTC)
