Spelling Edit

I have it on good authority that this character was named for a friend of Rick Berman's son Tom, who spells his name "Brian Sofen"; the character's naming was in honor of Brian's having signed up for the US Naval Academy during production. I'd like to request that the page be moved with a redirect and the spelling changed.

Can you provide a reference link? -- LauraCC (talk) 20:57, March 10, 2016 (UTC)
Even if your speculation may be correct, the call sheet, the Voyager companion and his CCG card as well as the episode's transcript spell him "Sofin". So that's what he should have and has his article here on MA. Tom (talk) 21:03, March 10, 2016 (UTC)
I'm just slightly paranoid that Tom might have scared you away, but even if we can't change the name, some kind of verification that the character was named for Rick Berman's son whould be tremendously valuable to us. -- Capricorn (talk) 04:50, March 11, 2016 (UTC)
I am quite scary these days. According to the anon he was named after a fried of Berman's son, not Berman's son. Tom (talk) 08:50, March 11, 2016 (UTC)
Sorry, guess I was blinded by fear -- Capricorn (talk) 18:32, March 11, 2016 (UTC)

I unfortunately have no written verification to provide, only testimony from Brian himself, who is a friend of mine; I've met Tom only once. In retrospect, it does seem like a stretch from your point of view to rename the whole article based on the say-so of one anon, but maybe it would be more reasonable to note in the article that the spelling is in dispute. Might it be noted in Star Trek: Voyager Companion? Daniel Kwan's bg note says that he was named after someone, and that's included in Star Trek: The Next Generation Companion. --LauraCC (talk) 18:42, March 15, 2016 (UTC)
