Spelling[]

Isn't this character's name properly spelled "Okmyx" (with a "k" instead of an "x")?--69.139.228.189 22:48, 29 March 2009 (UTC)GSchnitzer

I believe the script has this spelling, even though Krako's poster had your spelling.--31dot 00:40, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

Well, it's not just Krako's poster, of course. The Bela Okmyx posters are up all over the city in Okmyx's Territory:

[1] and [2]

Also, the Final Draft script (dated October 30, 1967--with additional revision pages dated October 31, 1967) has the spelling "Okmyx:" http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3650/3394716581_78a0f83ceb.jpg and http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3595/3395526600_62a9535d22.jpg Also, episode credits say simply "Bela:"

[3]

I can't find *any* acceptable source where it is spelled with an "x."--GSchnitzer 14:06, 30 March 2009 (UTC)GSchnitzer

Spelling redux[]

I don't think a script and a poster should be considered more acceptable sources than The Star Trek Compendium, The Star Trek Encyclopedia and the pronunciation in the actual episode combined. I'd like to remind everyone that the Mugato was called the Gumato in the script but we don't call it that. I don't have the Blu-rays on hand, but I'm betting the subtitles also spell his name as Oxmyx. If there are no objections, I will be renaming the page tomorrow. NetSpiker (talk) 01:15, March 13, 2016 (UTC)

Uhm yes I have an objection: the name was seen spelled in the episode, so that name is canon. This supersedes reference materials. Our policy is actually incredibly clear on this, you might want to re-familiarize yourself with them. Also one day is probably a bit on the short side for a commenting period, many people who might be interested will miss that window. -- Capricorn (talk) 06:21, March 13, 2016 (UTC)

The policy is indeed clear. Spoken dialogue (what is said) supersedes Visual material (what is seen). Since "Bela Oxmyx" is spoken dialogue and "Bela Okmyx" is visual material, the page should be called Bela Oxmyx. Also, how long should I normally wait for an objection before taking action? NetSpiker (talk) 09:10, March 13, 2016 (UTC)

Pretty sure that Capricorn raised a very good objection. Don't rename this. -- sulfur (talk) 11:16, March 13, 2016 (UTC)
Pronunciation is not that good a source given that it's an alien name, so they could pronounce k as x, there are myraids of weird pronunciation rules in the real world too. With both the script and the poster supporting the k, it should stay here. Kennelly (talk) 12:25, March 13, 2016 (UTC)
The episode is clear: it's a k pronounced as an x. Simple as that. -- Capricorn (talk) 17:53, March 13, 2016 (UTC)

In the name "Krako", both K's are still pronounced as K's. But I can see that I'm out-voted. NetSpiker (talk) 00:36, March 14, 2016 (UTC)

Nothing about being "out-voted". Being presented with reason as to why this is the correct location for it. -- sulfur (talk) 01:00, March 14, 2016 (UTC)
