The Face of the Unknown question[]

I saw several copies on the shelf in a bookstore already, though it's listed here as coming out on Dec. 27th. When did it actually come out? --LauraCC (talk) 16:19, December 22, 2016 (UTC)

Its official release date is next Tuesday, but a number of retailers appear to be selling it pre-Xmas. -- sulfur (talk) 16:23, December 22, 2016 (UTC)

They can do that? And it's not against the rules? --LauraCC (talk) 16:40, December 22, 2016 (UTC)

We generally go by the release date listed on Amazon for books, CDs, DVDs, etc. Most comic retailers post the expected release date for those publications, which is what we use. I'll occasionally move an item from upcoming productions to the released page if it appears that the item has been released early across the board, but I'll leave the official release date on the posting because... who knows what the actual release date is in that case? -- Renegade54 (talk) 16:57, December 22, 2016 (UTC)
Release dates on books are only an embargo in rare circumstances (Harry Potter, for example). Those are usually indicated on the boxes the copies ship in. Otherwise, they just go on the shelves when they arrive. We use the official release date because that is verifiable. -- Michael Warren | Talk 18:27, December 22, 2016 (UTC)

Thanks. --LauraCC (talk) 18:12, December 23, 2016 (UTC)
