Reed Alert was a name sarcastically suggested by Commander Tucker to Lieutenant Reed as the name for the new tactical alert system he was working on. It was later dismissed by Lieutenant Reed as being "a bit narcissistic."

Other names suggested were "condition red" and "security protocol." Security protocol was deemed "not very dynamic." (ENT: "Singularity")

This was a clear reference to the well known Red alert used in the 23rd and 24th centuries.
