T'Shanik was a female Vulcan from Vulcana Regar.

In 2364, T'Shanik was one of the Starfleet Academy hopefuls who took the Starfleet Academy entrance exam on Relva VII, along with Wesley Crusher and Oliana Mirren. All three of them lost out to Mordock.

She greeted Oliana by name upon entering the room, then commented that Wesley did not look old enough to meet the age requirement for the exam. Later, she congratulated Mordock on his win. (TNG: "Coming of Age")

Appendices[]

Background information[]

T'Shanik was played by Tasia Valenza.

Originally, this character was to have been a Klingon named "Kronos". She was changed to a Vulcan at the behest of Robert H. Justman, and her name was changed on the advice of D.C. Fontana, in comments she wrote on the first draft of the episode's story outline. This was evidenced by a memo dated 4 November 1987), regarding the second draft of the outline, when the installment had the working title "Starfleet Academy". Gene Roddenberry sent the memo to Sandy Fries, commenting in it, "I particularly like Bob Justman's suggestion that Kronos be a Vulcan rather than a Klingon [….] Agree [with Fontana] also we should change the name 'Kronos'."

In the revision, she was described as "a dark young Vulcan woman, who looks as if she's surprised anyone else bothered to show up." [1]

Apocrypha[]

According to the story "Making A Difference" in the Star Trek: New Frontier anthology No Limits, she had graduated the Academy in 2370 and served as a flight control officer on the USS Excalibur.

In the Star Trek: Prometheus novel Fire with Fire, T'Shanik has become pilot of the USS Prometheus in 2385.
