Referenced in the final draft script for DS9: "Strange Bedfellows", Surfan was a married ranjen. He and his wife sent Kasidy Yates a bowl of Koganka pudding that was served by Quark. Though Kasidy told Quark that she hadn't ordered anything, Quark notified her that the pudding was compliments of Surfan and his wife, and that it was "traditional or something." The script's stage directions thereafter called for Surfan and his wife to raise their glasses in a toast when Kasidy looked in their direction, to which she smiled and waved back.
