Sugar is a naturally-derived foodstuff most often used for sweetening other foods or beverages. In general use, non-scientists take "sugar" to mean sucrose, also called "table sugar" or saccharose, a disaccharide (or two-part sugar) which is a white crystalline solid produced from glucose (derived from starches, such as rice and grains) and fructose (derived from plants, such as fruits and vegetables).

In 2151, Trip Tucker asked T'Pol if she wanted a bite of his pecan pie to taste. She refused as the dessert was "mostly sugar". Trip retorded that it "may not be good for the body, but it sure is good for the soul". (ENT: "Breaking the Ice")

Tango was a horse owned by Christopher Pike at some point prior to 2254. Tango enjoyed eating sugar cubes (sucrose compressed into cube form for ease of service use). He appeared as a part of an illusion generated by the Talosians when they were attempting to forge a bond between Pike and Vina. (TOS: "The Cage")

Sugar is one of the key ingredients in the Earth alcoholic cocktail known as a mint julep. (TOS: "This Side of Paradise")

Marshmallows are a Terran confection consisting mostly of sugar and egg whites. They are used in many desserts, including Rocky Road ice cream (ENT: "Oasis"), and can be traditionally toasted over a campfire (Star Trek V: The Final Frontier).

In 2347, a seven-year-old Ro Laren was given a piece of sugar candy by a Cardassian who led her to a room where she found her father sitting inside. For the next two hours, she was forced to sit and watch as a Cardassian questioned and tortured her father until he died. (TNG: "Ensign Ro")

Gooseberry cobbler is an Earth food, a dessert made out of the fruit of the Gooseberry plant which are tart, and then sweetened with sugar and baked together. (TNG: "A Fistful of Datas")

The Earth beverage coffee is often sweetened with sugar. Starfleet officers such as Miles O'Brien enjoyed sugar in their coffee, often ordering his coffee "double strong, double sweet". (DS9: "Whispers")

While on the Caretaker's array in 2371, the crew of the USS Voyager were offered lemonade (presumably sweetened with sugar) and sugar cookies. (VOY: "Caretaker")
