Stepan was a Starfleet officer assigned to the Engineering Department of the USS Enterprise-D. This officer held the rank of ensign in 2367. When a minor anomaly in the moralis pressure was traced to a preburner producing richer deuterium flow, this ensign thought the issue was one of thermal conductivity. Chief Engineer Geordi La Forge, after consulting with a engineering consultant, disagreed with this assessment. (TNG: "Galaxy's Child")
