- If you are looking for information about astronomical science, see Stellar Cartography.
The Stellar Cartography department is an area of a Galaxy class starship which is dedicated to the science and practice of charting space. In 2369, Lieutenant Commander Nella Daren worked as a specialist in the Stellar Cartography department aboard the Enterprise-D. She approved the transfer of Ensign Cabot from Quantum Mechanics to the Stellar Cartography department, without first consulting with Commander William Riker. This was considered a serious breach in protocol.(TNG:"Lessons")
In 2370, Alsia, an alien matron of Quark's Bar, told Martus Mazur that her father had been a stellar cartographer. Alsia's father had conducted a full spectrum mineralogical analysis of the Vlugta asteroid belt in 2350, although he didn't have the resources available to produce a profit from his research. Alsia told the El Aurian that she planned to finish her father's work.(DS9:"Rivals")
In 2371, Captain Jean-Luc Picard and Lieutenant Commander Data visited the Stellar Cartography department in an effort to research the motivations behind the actions of Dr. Tolian Soran.{Star Trek: Generations)
On the USS Voyager, Jenny Delaney and Megan Delaney served in Stellar Cartography. In 2374, Stellar Cartography was replaced with an Astrometrics lab. (VOY: "Time and Again", "Year of Hell, Part I")
Similar rooms to the one seen in Star Trek: Generations have been seen on Star Trek: Voyager, as the astrometrics lab, and Star Trek: Nemesis.
