A stellar cartographer, cartographer, or cartographic detail was a type of astronomer who specialized in stellar cartography, that is, one who mapped and created star charts.

In 2152, the crew of Enterprise NX-01 rescued three Takret Militia deserters, named Renth, Rellus Tagrim, and Guri, from an incoming class 5 neutronic storm. When it was revealed that they were from the distant Takret system, they explained that their work as stellar cartographers often took them far from home. Upon learning this, Jonathan Archer hoped that they could help them update their star charts. (ENT: "The Catwalk")

During he USS Enterprise's mission to Pollux IV in 2267, Captain James T. Kirk ordered the cartographic detail to stand by before ordering all cartographic sections to "implement standard orders," which was otherwise described as "all cartographic standards full automatic." (TOS: "Who Mourns for Adonais?")

In early 2368, two new exobiologists and three stellar cartographers transferred from the USS Zhukov to the USS Enterprise-D. (TNG: "The Game")

In 2369, Lieutenant Commander Nella Daren served as the department head of stellar sciences aboard the USS Enterprise-D. In a breach of protocol, she approved the transfer of Ensign Cabot from quantum mechanics to the stellar cartography, without first consulting with Commander William T. Riker. (TNG: "Lessons")

In 2370, Deep Space 9 was assigned a new cartographer named Ensign Melora Pazlar. (DS9: "Melora")

The same year, Martus Mazur met a con artist, named Alsia, who claimed that her father was a stellar cartographer who conducted a mineralogical analysis of the Vlugta asteroid belt in 2340, but was never able to follow up what he found there. In an attempt to con her mark, she wished to procure the proper funding so as to file her stake on the claim. (DS9: "Rivals")

On the USS Voyager, twin sisters Jenny Delaney and Megan Delaney were station in stellar cartography. (VOY: "Time and Again")
