Future Enterprise captain. Broke up with his girlfriend Ruth the night before going to Starfleet Academy.

George Samuel Kirk

James Kirk's older brother. Dating Aurelan.

Matt Decker

Strategy professor. He was later seen as a Commodore in "The Doomsday Machine".

Ben Finney

Dean of Students. Later encountered in "Court Martial".

Gary Mitchell

Slob of a roommate, next encountered in "Where No Man Has Gone Before".

Finnegan

Third-year student adviser. Practical joker. Next encountered in "Shore Leave".

Carol Marcus

Science major at the Academy. Pushed toward Kirk by Mitchell. They later started a relationship. Later encountered in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.

Uhura

Upperclasswoman. Close friend of Carol Marcus.

Kyle

Classmate of Kirk and Mitchell.

Ruth

Girlfriend of Kirk until they broke up the night before he left for the Academy. She moved to San Francisco to be near him at the end of the first term and they got back together as a couple.
