Star Trek III: The Undiscovered Country was the Video 8 release of Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. A relatively short-lived video tape format, it was the fifth Star Trek release in this format, and its US/Canadian release the only one known to date.
Background information[]
Of the, in total six titles from the Star Trek films series released, Undiscovered Country appeared to have been one of the more uncommon ones; the Video 8 home media format was by the time of its release well on its way out – for pre-recorded Hollywood productions that is, as the format was in wide use as a home-movie recording medium worldwide. Additionally, and contrary to the previous release, this release concurrently seemed to have been a "johnny-come-lately" or an afterthought, as the title was published well over a year after the movie itself had premiered, and well after its larger VHS sibling had been released, as had indeed the contemporary, and competing, LaserDisc home media format counterpart.
