Star Trek: The Visual Dictionary is an officially licensed hardcover reference book, produced by Dorling Kindersley. The book features information from Star Trek, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyager, Star Trek: Enterprise and the first ten Star Trek films, from Star Trek: The Motion Picture to Star Trek Nemesis. The foreword is written by John de Lancie.

StarTrek.com provided an update on The Visual Dictionary on 3 January 2013, that it would make use of "rarely seen material from the CBS archives."[1] StarTrek.com released an exclusive look at two additional pages on 15 February 2013. [2]

Background information

Though first published more than three years after the release of Star Trek, the book does not acknowledge any events or use any photos from the Kelvin timeline, though a few facts presumed to be true in both universes are included. (i.e. The Vulcan and Romulan languages being nearly indistinguishable, and Romulan's three spoken dialects, pg. 61.)
A photo of Lansor and P'Chan from VOY: "Survival Instinct" on pg. 88 is mistakenly identified as drones being sent into Unimatrix Zero.
Apart from the 2016 Australian version, the book has also seen at least three translated international editions to wit, the German version Star Trek - Die visuelle Enzyklopädie: Die ganze Welt von Raumschiff Enterprise, the by Simón Saitó in Spanish translated version Star Trek: Diccionario visual - Guía definitiva de los personajes, las razas y la tecnología, and the French version Star Trek: L'encyclopédie illustrée, released in April, October, and November 2013 respectively. The Spanish and French editions were licensed to local publishers.
All versions were issued as hardcovers (without dustjacket), measuring 26.0×1.4×30.9 cm.
