Template:Realworld Releases of Star Trek: The Original Series on DVD began in 1999. These initial releases were single-disc, two-episodes-per-disc editions with minimal special features. The episodes were released in production order, with "The Cage" (in both black & white and original color versions) being included on the final volume.

These releases were Region 1 only; the rest of the world would have to wait until 2004 for an Original Series release, when the decision to focus on season box sets saw a re-release of the series - this time, worldwide.

A special limited-edition Complete Collection was released in the UK - limited to just 2,000 copies, the collection came in a "records bin."

The first season of the remastered Original Series saw release in a DVD/HD DVD combo format in 2007, both in region 1 and region 2 (UK only) in identical packaging. The HD DVD version was pressed on one side of the DVD, the standard DVD version on the other. The withdrawal of the HD DVD format meant that this format was not included on the follow-up releases for region 1. For region 2 it was decided to relaunch the series in 2009 in new packaging (soft-board carton slipcases for the UK, metallic slipcases for continental Europe, with Germany splitting the three box sets into six).
