Species 116 script.

Species 116 is the Borg designation for a Delta Quadrant species whose original name is unknown.

This species was highly adept at learning languages and deciphering cryptographic patterns, so much so that they could function as living universal translators - being able to decipher and speak any language after hearing only a few phrases. They managed to elude the Borg for centuries, always staying one step ahead. Their level of technology was very advanced, enough to develop quantum slipstream propulsion and particle synthesis technology, a sophisticated form of holographic replication technology.

Despite all of this, they were assimilated in 2374 after the Borg defeated Species 8472, thanks to the brief alliance between the USS Voyager and the Borg. Only ten or twenty thousand members of this race were able to escape.

The Federation starship USS Voyager encountered a member of this race, named Arturis, in 2374. (VOY: "Hope and Fear")
