Sonequa Martin-Green (born 21 March 1985; age 38) is an American actress who plays Michael Burnham, the lead character in Star Trek: Discovery.

Martin-Green has said she wasn't a Star Trek fan growing up, though she was aware of how Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. convinced Nichelle Nichols to stay on the original series. [1]

Martin-Green won a Saturn Award for her performance as Burnham at the 2018 ceremony and which was the first industry award she was nominated for. [2] This was followed by a second nomination in 2019 in the same category, [3] which she also won, and a third one in 2021.

Career[]

Martin-Green is best known for playing Sasha Williams on AMC's comic book TV adaptation of The Walking Dead (co-starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Kenric Green, and guest starring Denise Crosby) between 2012 and 2018, and Tamara on ABC's Once Upon a Time (also starring Jennifer Morrison) in 2013.

She also played the recurring role of Courtney Wells in the legal drama series The Good Wife in 2009-11. She guest starred in episodes of series such as Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Army Wives (with Brian McNamara, Terry Serpico, Brigid Brannagh, and Wendy Davis, directed by Allison Liddi), Gossip Girl (directed by Larry Shaw), and New Girl.

She played Kamiyah James, the fictional wife of LeBron James in the 2021 film Space Jam: A New Legacy, which featured Sarah Silverman and the voices of Eric Bauza, Kimberly Brooks, and Fred Tatasciore.

Martin-Green is married to fellow actor and Discovery season 2 castmember, Kenric Green who also acted on The Walking Dead. The couple have two children, a son born in 2015 and a daughter born in 2020.
