Sodium is a chemical element, number 11 on the periodic table. It has the atomic weights of 11 and 19. (TNG: "Rascals")

Oddly, in "Rascals", sodium was on the Table of Elements twice, once under the symbol "Na" (symbol in real life), and again under the symbol "K." In real life, "K" is the atomic symbol for potassium.

Upon the discovery of what was later determined to be the sentient inorganic microbrain, Doctor Crusher ran a spectral analysis in order to determine the composition of the being. Upon completion of the analysis, it was determined to be made up of silicon and germanium, making it a transistor material; gallium arsenide, meaning that it emitted light when charged; cadmium selenide and sulfide, meaning that it emitted charge when lit; and water, impurities, sodium salts, meaning that it was a conductor. From those results, the computer was able to positive determination that it was indeed life. (TNG: "Home Soil")
