The Sikarians were the inhabitants of the planet Sikaris in the Delta Quadrant.

They were a humanoid race dedicated to helping others and, as a result, their hospitality was legendary. They were especially interested in stories, regarding them as an essential part of their culture. In fact, they were mostly interested in the new and different, quickly growing bored with any particular person or activity.

The Sikarians were a technologically advanced race, but the most unusual piece of technology on Sikaris was the spatial trajector, which could instantaneously transport a person up to forty thousand light years. The limit of its range was the planet Alastria.

In 2371 the USS Voyager attempted to purchase this technology but was turned down by the Sikarian government. A secret exchange was made anyway but the trajector turned out to be incompatible with Federation technology due to it emitting anti-neutrinos. (VOY: "Prime Factors")

Initially, the Sikarians were one of three alien species, along with the Kazon and the Vidiians, that the writing team of Star Trek: Voyager planned, in the series' first season, to feature as recurring, antagonistic aliens. However, only the latter two succeeded this expectation. (Captains' Logs Supplemental - The Unauthorized Guide to the New Trek Voyages, p. 127)
