Shay Astar (born 29 September 1981; age 42) is the actress and singer who played Isabella in the Star Trek: The Next Generation fifth season episode "Imaginary Friend". She is perhaps best known for her recurring role as Tommy's girlfriend August on the situation comedy television series 3rd Rock from the Sun. Astar filmed her scenes on "Imaginary Friend" between Wednesday 26 February 1992 and Monday 2 March 1992 and Wednesday 4 March 1992 and Thursday 5 March 1992 on Paramount Stage 8, 9, and 16.

Astar's first television role was that of the young "K.C." Koloski on the drama series China Beach in 1991. Star Trek: Voyager veterans Robert Picardo, Jeff Kober, and Concetta Tomei were regulars on this series at the time. Astar made her film debut that same year, playing Elizabeth in the comedy Ernest Scared Stupid. She again worked with Robert Picardo in the 1992 film Samantha, in which Astar played the title character as a child while Picardo played her biological father.

Following her appearance on Star Trek: The Next Generation, Astar guest-starred on such television shows as Quantum Leap (starring Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell), Boy Meets World (with Jason Marsden), and ER (with Carlos Carrasco, Cully Fredricksen, and Lily Mariye). She also starred in the short-lived NBC sitcom The Good Life and worked with Robert Beltran, Brigid Brannagh, and Dakin Matthews in the 1993 TV movie Rio Shannon.

Astar was the voice of Andrea on the 1996 animated series The Oz Kids and the direct-to-video movies based on the show. Bradley Pierce also had a voice role in these productions. In 1999, Astar appeared in the film Deal of a Lifetime, along with Ron Glass. She played August on 3rd Rock from the Sun from 1996 through 1999, appearing in twenty episodes of the show. Among the other performers she worked with on the show were Karen Austin, Jim Beaver, Richard Fancy, Frank Kopyc, and Brenda Strong.

More recently, Astar was directed by James Contner in an episode of the short-lived Fox series The Inside. She has also appeared on the CBS drama series The Unit (with Abby Brammell and Michael Shamus Wiles) and Cold Case (directed by Roxann Dawson). Her recent film credits include The Lost in 2006, which also featured fellow Next Generation guest star Ed Lauter, and an appearance in 2014 in the 2011 Showtime television series Shameless.
