Schizophrenia was a serious mental condition. It was often incorrectly generalized as having "split personalities"; although one type of the ailment presented this way, there were several different symptomologies, some causing, for example, a prolonged catatonic state. (TOS: "Dagger of the Mind")

By the 2020s, there were several effective treatments for schizophrenia that could cure the condition. People with schizophrenia were placed in the Sanctuary Districts and classed as "Dims". (DS9: "Past Tense, Part I")

In 2266, Dr. Leonard McCoy ruled out schizophrenia as the cause of Simon Van Gelder's insanity. (TOS: "Dagger of the Mind")

In 2399, after Dahj Asha, an android unaware of her status as such, did research about some odd things she was going through including auditory hallucinations, she concluded that she might have schizophrenia. An alternative idea was that she had had head trauma. (PIC: "Remembrance")

In the script for the Star Trek: The Next Generation second season episode "Time Squared", Katherine Pulaski says she doesn’t know "how long anyone can take this kind of schizophrenia," i.e. Jean-Luc Picard's coming face-to-face with a duplicate of himself. This was changed to "anxiety state" for the final episode. [1]
