The San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge was a bridge dating to the early 20th century in the San Francisco Metropolitan Area, California. This landmark bridge spanned the San Francisco Bay. This double-decker bridge passed through Yerba Buena Island. At night, the bridge was illuminated by streetlights and by lights on the suspension railings. In 1986, this bridge was identified by name on a MUNI system map. (Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home)

For centuries, this bridge was visible from the tallest buildings in the city. (Star Trek: The Motion Picture; Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home; DS9: "Paradise Lost"; VOY: "Non Sequitur"; ENT: "Affliction")

The San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge was seen as a background element in a matte painting commissioned for Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Subsequent appearances of the bridge focused on the western span.

Alternate timeline[]

In the alternate 2259, in the office of Admiral Alexander Marcus, there was on the wall a large picture of the bridge. Taken at street level, near one of the suspension towers, this photo included a distant view of another suspension tower with Yerba Buena Island in the background. (Star Trek Into Darkness)
