Salmon P. Chase was a noted 19th century Human politician from the United States of America, who was notable for serving under the administration of President Abraham Lincoln as the Secretary of Treasury.

The painting entitled First Reading of the Emancipation Proclamation of President Lincoln, depicting Chase during Lincoln's 1862 signing of the Emancipation Proclamation, was contained in the library computer aboard the USS Enterprise. This data was flashed on a viewscreen when the Talosians scanned the Enterprise computer in 2254. (TOS: "The Cage" remastered)
