Salmon was a type of fish found on Earth. It was also known as something of a delicacy food.

In 2267, Spock referred to salmon and the eel-bird's need to spawn at a specific location while attempting to explain the intricacies of Vulcans' pon farr mating rituals. (TOS: "Amok Time")
