Sally Ride was an American astronaut in NASA's Space Shuttle program. She was a crewmember on STS-41G.

In 2063, the assignment patch for this mission was on display in the Crash-n-Burn Bar. This patch bore the astronaut's last name. (Star Trek: First Contact)

Sally Ride was the first female American astronaut to go to space (the third woman in space overall, after two Russian cosmonauts). Ride died from pancreatic cancer in 2012 – during the gap years after Star Trek: Enterprise went off the air in 2005 and when the franchise returned to television with Star Trek: Discovery in 2017.
The USS Ride, which appeared in the series premiere of Star Trek: Discovery, was presumably named after her.
