Rumplestiltskin was a fictional character, a dwarf from an ancient Earth fairy tale named Rumpelstiltskin originating in Germany. He could spin straw into gold, and agreed to do so for a young maiden in exchange for her first-born son. He told her she could only keep it if she guessed his name, which she did, and he became so angry that he stomped his foot into the ground, shaking the entire kingdom, and broke himself in two.

The story was one of Molly O'Brien's favorites. In 2369, an alien entity appeared to Molly in the form of Rumplestiltskin. The alien was on a mission of exploration and had followed a ship through the wormhole to Deep Space 9. (DS9: "If Wishes Were Horses")

Rumpelstiltskin was played by Michael John Anderson.
