Roger Maris was a noted Human baseball player of the 20th century. He spent the majority of his time in the game playing for the New York Yankees.
In 2366, the only known Roger Maris baseball card still in existence, dating from circa 1962, was among the items of Kivas Fajo's illegal collection. It was kept in a display case and the scent of bubble gum was preserved along with the card. (TNG: "The Most Toys")
In 1961 – the season a 1962 card would have recognized – Maris set a Major League record by hitting 61 home runs, a record that still stood when the episode aired in 1990. According to the Star Trek Encyclopedia (4th ed., vol. 2, p. 21), the previous record holder was Babe Ruth.
