Robert "Rob" Legato was a Starfleet officer in the 24th century.

As vice admiral, on stardate 22519.5, he was head of the Mission Ops group at 40 Eridani A Starfleet Construction Yards during the construction of the USS Brattain. (TNG: "Night Terrors", dedication plaque)

In 2353, he was listed as a Starfleet Operational Support Services officer on a directory for Starbase 32, Maxia sector. His office was located in room #35882. (TNG: "Violations", directory)

Legato, was a captain in 2363, when he was listed as a member of the Warp Technologies Development Group on the 2368 version of the dedication plaque for the USS Enterprise-D. (TNG: "Silicon Avatar", dedication plaque)

By 2364, Legato became the commanding officer of the USS Matte Fringe. After stardate 41547.8, he received an order about security clearances to classified material for a project from Admiral Daniel Curry of the Starfleet Mission Operations Division. (TNG: "Conspiracy", okudagram)

In early 2367, on stardate 44034.3, he was treated in the Wiemer Medical Facility on Melina II for the Iresine Syndrome. It was later discovered that in fact he had been subjected to a telepathic memory invasion by the Ullian Jev. (TNG: "Violations", okudagram)

He was named after Star Trek: The Next Generation director and visual effects coordinator Robert Legato.
