For similarly named star, please see Beta Rigel.

In the alternate February 2259, Starfleet was tracking the movement of Rigel Beta representatives in the San Francisco Metropolitan Area. Their current position was identified by a label superimposed over a map of the area. This map was in a collection of graphics and video media that was seen on a powerwall in the office of Admiral Christopher Pike at Starfleet Headquarters. (Star Trek Into Darkness)

The map can be seen in the video "Star Trek: Into Darkness" – User Interface VFX at vimeo.com. [1]
The Star Trek: Star Charts (p. 52) postulated a similarly named "Beta Rigel" as a star much closer to Earth then the real but very far away star Rigel. This Beta Rigel was said to be home to the Rigel colonies and the Rigelian civilization, whereas the "real" Rigel harbored Rigel VII.
