Relva VII from orbit

Type: Planet
Location: Relva system
Affiliation: United Federation of Planets

Relva VII was the seventh planet of the Relva planetary system. The planet was affiliated with the United Federation of Planets. Prior to 2364, a Federation facility administered by Starfleet was established on the planet.

In stardate 41461, the planet hosted a Starfleet Academy entrance test for aspiring cadets. The successful cadet would gain entrance to the main branch of the Academy on Earth. In that year, Wesley Crusher, along with three other Academy hopefuls, Mordock, T'Shanik, and Oliana Mirren, took the Starfleet Academy entrance exam. One of the main tests on the exam was the psych test. Out of the four candidates, Mordock was chosen to enter the Academy on Earth. (TNG: "Coming of Age")

The planet model was first used for Mordan IV in "Too Short a Season". It would be modified for its appearance as Relva VII and as Starbase 179 in "A Matter Of Honor".

The Relva VII outpost computer voice was provided by an unknown actor and the test computer voice by an unknown actress.

Original appearance as Aldebaran II spaceport...
...and as Federation facility on Relva VII

The exterior view of the Federation facility was a matte painting that was originally done for Universal Studios' television series Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, where it appeared as the Aldebaran II spaceport in the 1979 two-part episode The Plot to Kill a City. It somehow was available for use for Paramount Television in Star Trek: The Next Generation where it was only slightly modified by Dan Curry for its appearance as the Federation facility, among others by adding the Starfleet symbols on the dome. The painting ended up in the possession of Curry, as part of his personal collection. (TNG Season 6 DVD-special feature "Dan Curry Profile")
