Reese was a male Human soldier in the 24th century Starfleet.

Reese served during the Dominion War in 2375. He was assigned to AR-558, a planet that the Federation Alliance had captured from the Dominion, under the command of Captain Loomis. They were assigned to protect the planet's communication array. Other members of the 150-person unit included Commander Parker, Vargas, Crewman Kellin, McGreevey and Lieutenant Nadia Larkin.

The team would successfully hold the location for five months, despite expecting to be replaced in 90 days. Over 100 of the unit were killed over this time, including Loomis and Parker. Reese was a hardened soldier, and took to wearing the ketracel-white tubes of Jem'Hadar he killed as a necklace. He also possessed a Jem'Hadar knife, which he presumably took from a dead Jem'Hadar, and kept it sharp.

When Captain Benjamin Sisko and his crew arrived, he took command and sent Reese along with Larkin and Nog to scout out the Jem'Hadar's location. Despite Nog's hearing ability to locate the camp, they were located and fired upon. Larkin was killed by Jem'Hadar phaser fire which also knocked down Nog. Reese carried Nog back to the camp and reported back the camp's status. Later, he was on the front line during the ensuing battle where they successfully held the compound. Reese survived the final Jem'Hadar attack and left the planet on the USS Defiant. (DS9: "The Siege of AR-558")

Background information[]

Reese was played by Patrick Kilpatrick.

Kilpatrick considered Reese to be a Starfleet officer. [1]

The Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Companion (p. 628) notes that his name is an homage to Steve McQueen's character in the 1962 film Hell Is for Heroes.

In the Tales of the Dominion War story "Requital", Reese, with help from Ekoor, tried to assassinate the Female Changeling during the events of "What You Leave Behind". Namely Reese and Ekoor posed as Breen at the surrender ceremony and then Reese attempted to kill the Female Changeling in her holding cell. Benjamin Sisko talked Reese out of going through with the assassination and sent him into counseling.

In "Saturn's Children", Reese's mirror universe counterpart (β) is depicted as being a member of the Terran Rebellion.
