Captain Janeway must stop an eons-old war!

Ragnarok is a Pocket VOY novel – #3 in the numbered series – written by Nathan Archer. Published by Pocket Books, it was first released in July 1995.

Summary

From the book jacket
Hope flares for Captain Kathryn Janeway and the crew of the USS Voyager when their sensors detect a signal that could lead them to a way home. But as the Starship Voyager races to the source of the signal, the crew find themselves in the middle of a raging battle between two warring races, a battle that has lasted for hundreds, if not thousands, of years.
Now, to find a way home, Captain Janeway and her crew must make their way through the most violent space-born conflict ever known – with both sides determined to destroy them!

Background information

  • This is the final Star Trek novel from Nathan Archer, although he would go on to write a Voyager graphic novel for WildStorm Comics, "False Colors".
  • Archer was hired to write Ragnarok based on his previous success in writing an early-stage novel for Deep Space Nine. He had only the series bible and the script for "Caretaker" to base his work on, although the pilot airing during his writing process helped solidify his understanding of the characters, which he noted to be quite different from the descriptions in the bible. (Voyages of Imagination, p. 280)
