Pyris VII was the seventh planet in the Pyris system. The planet's location in the Milky Way Galaxy was depicted on a Federation star chart in 2293. Prior to 2267, several mapping expeditions had revealed no indigenous life on the planet. The atmosphere was capable of supporting humanoid life-forms. (TOS: "Catspaw", Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country)

The location of Pyris VII on "The Explored Galaxy" wall chart

In 2267, the ornithoid lifeforms, from outside the Milky Way Galaxy, Sylvia and Korob established an outpost there for the purpose of learning about the worlds of the Federation. Sylvia became infatuated with sensation, and dangerously irrational. To stop her, James T. Kirk destroyed the transmuter used by the aliens. Without its power, the two aliens were not able to survive on the surface of Pyris VII and died. (TOS: "Catspaw")

Background information

Behind the Scenes

The original appearance of Pyris VII was replaced when the episode "Catspaw" was remastered in 2006. Additionally, a new matte was created to represent the castle located on the planet, using the original shot of the fog-shrouded entryway and building the full castle on top of it.

"The Explored Galaxy"

Pyris VII was misspelled as "Pyrix VII" on this chart. This chart was also seen in several Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episodes set in the 24th century, from the year 2364 to 2370. These were: TNG: "Conspiracy", "The Measure Of A Man", "The Emissary", "The Mind's Eye", "The Game" and DS9: "In the Hands of the Prophets", "Cardassians".
