A power company was a business that sold energy to its customers. At least one such company existed on Bajor in the 24th century. A key clue in Odo's 2370 investigation of the attempted murder of Quark was that Vaatrik Pallra's power was briefly shut off for non-payment, but that her power was restored after she was able to transfer funds to the firm. The sudden appearance of money to cover the power bill allowed Odo to discover that Vaatrik had been blackmailing other people. (DS9: "Necessary Evil")
