Lieutenant junior grade Piersall was a 24th century Human Starfleet command division officer serving aboard the USS Prometheus in 2370.

That year, he assisted Gideon Seyetik with the project of reigniting the long dead star, Epsilon 119. He warned Seyetik that he'd be killed, to which Seyetik suggested he record his actions for posterity. When Seyetik mentioned The Fall of Kang and not wishing to be pitied, Piersall didn't understand the reference. (DS9: "Second Sight")

Piersall was played by actor Mark Erickson.
Piersall was identified in the script as a lieutenant commander, but on screen he wears the pips for an officer with the rank of lieutenant junior grade. His rank is never specified mentioned on screen, and he is credited in the end credits only as "Piersall". He seemed to have been in command of the Prometheus for the mission - it is unlikely that either a lieutenant jg or a lieutenant commander would be the captain of a ship as large as a Nebula-class. The script says that he is merely "in charge" of the bridge. He may well have been the first officer or second officer.
According to a line cut from the episode, Piersall was impressed with the work that Miles O'Brien had done on the Prometheus's warp engines.
