Peter Landsdown Smith was a production designer and art director on Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. As an art director, Smith had previously worked with fellow Star Trek IV production designer Jack T. Collis on the comic 1982 film Night Shift, featuring Clint Howard and Vincent Schiavelli. He worked frequently with production designers Gene Callahan and Richard Sylbert.

Smith worked as both production designer and art director on a few other films, including Seems Like Old Times (1980, featuring Marc Alaimo and Bill Zuckert) and Big Trouble (1986, featuring Paul Dooley, Richard Libertini, Warren Munson, and Barbara Tarbuck). His only other production design credits are two comedies also starring Paul Dooley, Paramount's Paternity (1981) and 1983's Going Berserk (co-starring Rosalind Chao, Richard Libertini, and Kurtwood Smith).

His most recent work was the Academy Award-nominated 1994 drama The Shawshank Redemption, whose cast included Bill Bolender, Brian Brophy, Clancy Brown, Jude Ciccolella, Bob Gunton, Don McManus, Mark Rolston, and William Sadler.
