Template:Realworld Patrick "Pat" G. McClung (born 6 June 1955; age 68) is an Academy Award-nominated motion picture visual effects artist who specializes in models and miniatures. His first professional film work was providing effects props and miniatures to the production of Star Trek: The Motion Picture while employed at the modelshop of Apogee, Inc. One of the models he worked on, was the D7-class studio model, adding the additional detailing as well as completely modifying the internal lighting rig, for it to become the K't'inga-class studio model, after Magicam's work was deemed insufficient to meet big screen requirements. Since Star Trek: The Motion Picture, McClung has worked as a model maker for Ghostbusters (1984), a technical supervisor for the miniatures in 1986's Aliens, and chief model maker for 1988's Die Hard. In addition, he was in charge of the weaponry effects for 1987's Masters of the Universe, served as model shop supervisor for 1989's The Abyss, and created the helicopter models for 1993's Cliffhanger.
McClung earned Academy Award nominations for his work as miniature supervisor working for Digital Domain on the hit 1994 action film True Lies (among those sharing the nomination was fellow Star Trek effects artist John Bruno). McClung also worked in Digital Domain's miniature department on the Academy Award-winning Apollo 13. McClung earned a second Academy Award nomination for his visual effects supervision on the 1998 film Armageddon. Other films on which he served as visual effects supervisor include Chain Reaction (1996), Dante's Peak (1997), and Charlie's Angels (2000). Most recently, he was the miniature unit supervisor on 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand, starring Star Trek: The Next Generation performers Patrick Stewart, Famke Janssen, and Kelsey Grammer.
McClung is featured in the 2011 documentary Sense of Scale, in which several model makers discuss their craft, and which also features Ron Gress, Greg Jein and Gene Rizzardi.
