Starfleet career Edit
Sometime in her lifetime, Paris joined Starfleet and eventually became the commanding officer of Starbase Yorktown, the newest and most advanced starbase the Federation had built to date.
In 2263, Starfleet Command had sent Captain James T. Kirk's application for a Vice admiral position at Yorktown to Paris for consideration, and requested that Commander Spock take command of the USS Enterprise in his stead.
Paris and Kirk later meets an alien female named Kalara, whose escape pod drifted out of the nearby nebula, who claimed that her ship and crew were stranded on a planet called Altamid in the nebula. Kirk volunteered the Enterprise to go into the nebula to rescue any survivors.
Unfortunately, the whole mission turned out to be a trap, as an alien commander named Krall ambushed the Enterprise to recover a piece of an ancient weapon onboard the ship, before launching an all-out attack on Yorktown. The surviving Enterprise crew faced Krall using the lost USS Franklin and thwarted Krall's attack.
In the aftermath, as the missing-in-action report on the Franklin is closed, after confirming with Paris that admirals don't get to command starships, Kirk declined the promotion, instead choosing to captain the new USS Enterprise-A. (Star Trek Beyond)
Background information Edit
Commodore Paris was played by actress Shohreh Aghdashloo.
Despite being verbally identified as a Commodore, her uniform shows the rank stripes of an Admiral, therefore it is likely that "commodore" refers to her position and not her actual rank, which would make more sense for Paris to review Kirk's Vice-admiral application as his potential superior officer.
This character was added to Star Trek Beyond late in its development, with Aghdashloo's scenes being filmed in reshoots. She was first announced to be in Star Trek Beyond on 11 March 2016 (for comparison, the film's release date was 22 July 2016).
However, the character was initially referred to as "the High Command of the Federation" in news reports.
