The Explored Galaxy

The location of Orion in The Explored Galaxy wall chart

Orion I was the inhabited first planet of its system. This system was located in the Orion sector, which was a region of space in the Alpha Quadrant.

Orion I was the location of a prestigious Institute of Cosmology. Crewman Mortimer Harren had hoped to attend the Institute of Cosmology there, and thus signed onto the USS Voyager because a year of field experience was required for admittance. In 2293, the location of Orion in the Milky Way Galaxy was labeled in a star chart that was in Captain James T. Kirk's quarters aboard the USS Enterprise-A. (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, production art)

According to the Star Trek: Star Charts and Stellar Cartography: The Starfleet Reference Library ("Federation Historical Highlights, 2161-2385"), the Orion (Pi3 Orionis) system was a trinary system with three F-class stars.
