The term Asian, Asiatic, or Oriental referred to anything originating from the Earth continent of Asia.

In a deleted scene from "The Corbomite Maneuver", Orientals were said to have been portrayed as villains in movies regarding the Sino-Western trouble. Admired by Sulu in his youth, they had "drooping eyelids" and "mysterious expressions" that he spent hours trying to copy. Paphiopedilum was an Asiatic genus of orchid belonging to the group cypripedium. (VOY: "Tattoo")
