A nuclear winter is a planet-wide alteration of the climate of a world, usually as the result of a nuclear war or other major nuclear event.
Planets that have undergone known nuclear winters include:
- Earth, which had a limited nuclear winter in the 21st century (TNG: "Encounter at Farpoint", "A Matter of Time")
- Talos IV, sometime (significantly) before 2254 (TOS: "The Cage")
- Though not expressly stated, it was said that their planet was devastated by atomic war.
- Uxal, from somewhere after 2247 until 2378 (VOY: "Friendship One")
- The Vaadwaur homeworld (VOY: "Dragon's Teeth")
