New York was a region of the North American continent on Earth. The state was in the nation known as the United States of America and the location of Albany, Camden City, Cooperstown, Garden City, Long Island, Northport, and New York City. The abbreviation for this region was NY.

In the mid-20th century, Amazing Detective Stories was published in this state, in New York City and Garden City. One of the stories, The Big Good-Bye, a Dixon Hill story, was based in New York City. (TNG: "The Big Goodbye")
