Spock wearing neural stimulator

Neural stimulator on Spock

A neural stimulator was a medical instrument used to stimulate particular areas of a humanoid brain.

Doctor Leonard McCoy used one to provide Spock's body with life support and motion after his brain had been stolen by the Eymorgs. These devices could be operated by remote control, if necessary. (TOS: "Spock's Brain")

In 2364, Doctor Beverly Crusher used a neural stimulator in an unsuccessful attempt to revive Natasha Yar after she had been fatally wounded by Armus. (TNG: "Skin Of Evil")

In 2368, "Professor" Berlinghoff Rasmussen stole a neural stimulator from the USS Enterprise-D, planning to sell the technology in the 22nd century. (TNG: "A Matter Of Time")

In 2372, The Doctor of the USS Voyager attempted to revive Lieutenant Tom Paris with a neural stimulator after Paris fell unconscious due to the effects of traveling at warp 10. It was unsuccessful in reviving Paris, but he returned to life shortly after. (VOY: "Threshold")

In 2374, Ensign Nog used several neural stimulators to stimulate Keevan's cerebellum after he was accidentally killed by Gaila before he could be traded for Ishka, who had been captured by the Dominion. The stimulators allowed Nog to "walk" the corpse, albeit in an unnatural fashion, deceiving Yelgrun long enough for Ishka to get to safety. (DS9: "The Magnificent Ferengi")
