Neela

Neela

Neela was a Bajoran religious activist who worked as an engineer aboard Deep Space 9 in 2369. (DS9: "Duet")

She was placed on Deep Space 9 as a cover for her assassination attempt of Vedek Bareil Antos, ostensibly to ensure the succession of Vedek Winn after the death of Kai Opaka. She planted a bomb in the station's school to convince Bareil to visit the station and killed Ensign Aquino after he caught her planning her escape route.

Fortunately, Commander Benjamin Sisko and Chief Miles O'Brien managed to discover Neela's intention and stop her before she could kill Bareil. Neela was taken into custody, but refused to implicate Winn. (DS9: "In the Hands of the Prophets")

Neela was played by Robin Christopher.
According to the script for "In the Hands of the Prophets", Neela was in her early 20s in 2369.
In the Deep Space Nine Companion, Robert Hewitt Wolfe notes that Anara was intended to be the character that attempts to assassinate Bareil Antos in "In the Hands of the Prophets". However, this idea was dropped and the character of Neela was created instead.
