Born in Mumbai, India, Contractor was raised and educated in Nigeria and London. At age ten, she immigrated with her family to Toronto, Canada, where she spent her youth studying classical ballet. She eventually turned to acting, finding success at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival in such plays as "A Midsummer Night's Dream" and "Pericles".
She broke into television in 2000 and, over the years, appeared in such Canadian programs as Relic Hunter (2001) and Street Time (2002-2003). In 2008, she was a regular cast member of the Canadian crime drama The Border. Two years later, she had a recurring role on the CBS sitcom Rules of Engagement. She appeared in four episodes of the series, including one with Alan Ruck.
Contractor is best known for her role as Kayla Hassan in the eighth and final season of the FOX series 24 in 2010. Others who appeared on the show during that season include Bob Gunton, Gregory Itzin, Scott Lawrence, Stephen Root, and Annie Wersching. Former Star Trek showrunners Brannon Braga and Manny Coto were writers and producers on the series at the time.
Since then, Contractor had guest roles in episodes of Lone Starr (2010) and The Paul Reiser Show (2011), filmed the thriller Seance (2011) and completed the fantasy television movie The Blood of Pegasus (2012).
