Lieutenant junior grade Nara was a nacelle control room supervisor aboard the USS Enterprise-D in 2370. Nara was of a species whose distinguishing characteristics included enhanced facial ridges on their forehead and nostrils extenuated over their nose.

Lieutenant j.g. Daniel Kwan was serving under her when Kwan committed suicide. Prior to his death, she feared he was interested in her job, something the half-Napean empath sensed.

She was interviewed during the investigation of the suicide, and stated that Kwan was having no trouble with his duties and seemed happy at his work. He did not confide in her that anything was troubling him. (TNG: "Eye of the Beholder")

Background information[]

Nara was played by actress Nancy Harewood. In the first draft script, this character was called Lieutenant Harper. In the final draft she was referred to as a "humanoid, mid-thirties", which suggests she was born in the mid-2330s.

She was a member of an unidentified species, which was identified in her Star Trek: Starship Creator biography as Canopian from the Canopus Planet. Her father is named Phacops and her mother is named Rana. She has two "pod sisters" named Aran and Anra.

The Star Trek Encyclopedia (4th ed., vol. 2, p. 67) mistakenly indicates this character made an appearance in Star Trek: Insurrection, referencing a different character named Nara ("Human male, 35,...") in the script. [1] Lieutenant Daniels replaced Nara's role in the film.
