Nagilum is a very powerful creature which created a void in space, utterly devoid of all matter and energy according to the sensors of the [[USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-D)]]. In the course of conversations the creature called humans limited, apparently because they were mortal. It decided to study this aspect of human life by killing off a large portion of the crew, up to one third or one half.
