For additional meanings of "Molly", please see Molly.

Mollie was an Irish Setter, kept by Kathryn Janeway as a pet in the early 2370s.

Mollie, who was the runt of the litter, was rescued by Janeway from a dog pound on Taris Seti IV. Janeway chose her because she thought the dog "had spunk." (VOY: "Shattered")

In 2371, before the launch of the USS Voyager, Mollie lived with Janeway at her house, where Janeway kept Mollie's doggy bed. During Voyager's mission, Janeway's fiancé Mark Johnson agreed to dog-sit Mollie and had picked up her doggy bed before Janeway had asked him to. (VOY: "Caretaker")

After Voyager and Janeway were lost in the Delta Quadrant, Johnson continued to care for Mollie, who would have a litter of puppies shortly after the Voyager's disappearance. By 2374, the puppies had grown considerably and got along with Johnson's new kitten. (VOY: "Hunters")

Janeway kept a photograph of herself, Mollie and Johnson in her ready room. (VOY: "Eye of the Needle", "Prime Factors", "Elogium", "Initiations", "Persistence of Vision")

When a temporal anomaly in 2377 split Voyager into thirty-seven time frames, Chakotay described Janeway's relationship with Mollie to a version of Janeway from 2371 to convince her that he was from the future. (VOY: "Shattered")

Hologram Janeway was programmed with memories of Mollie. In 2384, she told the crew of the USS Protostar about Mollie. (PRO: "Preludes")

Appendices[]

Background information[]

Mollie was played by an unknown Irish Setter, trained by Rob Bloch and Rose Ordile of Critters of the Cinema.

In the second draft script of "Prime Factors", Janeway's dog was named "Oakley" and was said to be a golden retriever.

As evidenced by the first draft script of "Flashback", Mollie was originally to have appeared in that installment, in a memory of Janeway's. However, all mention of the dog was eliminated from the episode by the time the final draft of the script was issued.

The script for "Shattered" spelled her name as "Molly".

The novelization of Caretaker (p.20) named this dog "Bear" instead of Mollie.
