Mind Meld: Secrets Behind the Voyage of a Lifetime was a home video special released in 2001 which featured William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy conversing about their lives, their friendship, and their careers. Without a script or moderator, the two discussed filming Star Trek, the pressures experienced in their personal lives, the resentment felt by other cast members, and a variety of other topics including personal demons and mortality.

Produced by Shatner's own Melis Productions company and initially distributed by Creative Light Entertainment for williamshatner.com, this 75-minute feature was shot entirely on Nimoy's property in Los Angeles. A majority of the film featured the two men sitting in the backyard of Nimoy's home, while a short portion in the middle showed them inside the home looking at years of collected memorabilia. The parts which were narrated featured the voice of Billy West.

Releases[]

Mind Meld was initially made available on VHS and DVD (as a region free release) exclusively at William Shatner's website on 6 November 2001 [1](X) before being given a general release in the US on 29 January 2002. Since then the documentary has been released in several other countries worldwide. Both Germany (dubbed in German, though the DVD version also included the original audio with German subtitles) and Japan got a release in 2002 and it was first released in the UK in 2005. The most recent release took place in Australia 2016, as part of their Star Trek 50th anniversary The Captains: A Journey Through Time DVD set.

The DVD version contained a five minute "making of" featurette (which also served as an advertisement for the video), additional interview clips, text biographies for the two actors, a weblink to williamshatner.com, subtitles, and a chapter selection menu.
